We thought seriously about open adoption too... In fact, 10 years ago, when I read the book "the kid" (Dan Savage), it changed my life-- it not only did it open my eyes to the incredible beauty of open adoption, but also made me ponder using a known donor if we TTC ourselves. It made me confront my fears, reminded me that children are not "owned" but rather belong to all of us, and made me see a whole new range of possibilities.

I know a number of people who have successfully pursued open adoption here, in Canada, where I live. Its been successful on all counts. And they managed to do it through the Children's Aid society (which means its free). Is that not an option where you are?

I wish you clarity and peace as you face this new possibility...

I don't know much about how it works, but it gave me such a smile to read this and think about your folks with a wee one... Let me know if I can help in any way.
